Hi

I'm from a test house from over the pond, and we've had a Gasmet for approximately 5 years... one of the first in the UK I think - http://www.engineeringtalk.com/news/qan/qan104.html was published in 2002 (on behalf of the UK supplier - I think we could do better in the write up now!!)

Anyway, back to the Gasmet, It is a very good piece of kit.... in the right hands. You can't just let any stack tester loose on it and expect good quality data. From our experience, you've got to be a chemist to fully appreciate the intricacies of interpreting the spectra. The spectral resolution is a bit weak at 8cm-1, but I suppose you need a lower resolution if the instrument is portable. The cost... well it seems a bit high, but compared to some other models we have available to us in the UK, it's a snip at around $70000, compared to some models from other companies at about $160000 for the top instruments.

The concentrations of up to fifty different compounds can be measured in just seconds!? well if you had a stack emitting pure gases, with no cross over interfering species then maybe, but realistically, if you can measure the standard analytes comfortably that seems good enough to me. Also, I don't know if it's an option in the US (it is with the new systems in the UK (not our old one unfortunately!!!)), but I believe an O2 measuring cell is available within the sampling system to beat the old homo-atomic problem.

When logging, be aware that a 1 minute sample integration actually takes approximately 65 seconds, so for those 24 hour jobs, they actually can take about 25-26 hours! a little annoying if you have multiple 24hr stacks to test.

Would we recommend one... yes, but be careful, the maintenance costs can be very high, although I hear the new model is a lot more stable than the "old" one we have. Finland is a long way from the US if anything major goes wrong (unless there's a US branch?)

If you need any more info, drop me a line.

Huw
