Hi,
The EPA has an ambient air monitoring program that is carried out by state and logal agencies. You can read about it here:
http://www.epa.gov/oar/oaqps/qa/monprog.html

There are six pollutants that are monitored through this program: particulate matter, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone, and lead. Your post doesn't mention what pollutants you are concerned about, so I thought I would mention this to you. The ambient air is currently being monitored.
