Method 202 tells the EPA's approved way to analyze the back half. Notice some of the issues, like getting rid of dissolved SO2 that can turn into sulfate particles in the impingers, I believe.

Our state has its own total PM method, written before EPA 202, I believe, which is EPA 5 for the front but differs for the back half. It uses acetone instead of methylene chloride for the back-half rinse to avoid exposing testers to the MeCl2. It uses MeCl2 in the lab to extract species soluble in it from the water catch before heating the water.
