AT THE HELP STATION

L. Christopher Heilner, Independent Stack Tester,
sent ActiveSET.org this suggestion:

"As a stack tester who routinely accepts the jobs which require the highest of climbs, I would like to urge others to push for routine structural analyses of platforms. Often times I encounter "soft spots", "flex spots" and "weak areas" on platforms. I must say they worry me when I have my 200 pound frame 300 pounds of equipment and a state observer supported by a platform with questionable structural integrity. I believe that this could be accomplished by either the testing company or the plant, but no one should be subjected to unsafe platforms. Thank You, L. Christopher Heilner."

"One of the largest pet peeves I have about this line of work is that there is rarely a source built to suit the tester. And especially in the more northern areas. I'm talking bone chilling cold, you figure engineers would keep that in mind? Why no shelters, why not even decent electrical hook ups at many of these places? I'm not trying to be picky but I really think that this should be kept in mind by industry."
