GAINESVILLE,
Florida (February 3, 2003) - The development of an online, global
forum to exchange air quality information electronically has
earned www.ActiveSET.org the prestigious
Clean Air Excellence Award presented by the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA). The Awards Program annually recognizes
and honors outstanding, innovative efforts that help to make
progress in achieving cleaner air.
The web
site www.ActiveSET.org was chosen
from over 140 applications received nationwide. The web site's
Owner and Executive Producer will accept the award March 20
at a ceremony held in Washington, D.C. Governor Christine Todd
Whitman, EPA Administrator, has been invited as the keynote
speaker. The presentation of awards will be made by EPA Assistant
Administrator Jeffrey Holmstead.
The www.ActiveSET.org
web site enables users to search geographic or alphabetized
directories for industrial air pollution issues, EPA test methods,
consultants, analytical services, or equipment suppliers. Internet
visitors worldwide have generated more than 2.4 million hits
on the web site since August 2000.
The Clean
Air Excellence Awards program, sponsored by the U.S. EPA's Office
of Air and Radiation, was established in 2000 at the recommendation
of the Clean Air Act Advisory Committee (CAAAC), a senior-level
policy committee that advises EPA on issues related to implementing
the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990. Award-winning entries
must directly or indirectly reduce pollutant emissions, demonstrate
innovation and uniqueness, provide a model for others to follow,
and offer sustainable outcomes.
